The development of this empire was majorly influenced by the
belief systems that co-existed in South-East Asia. This included Animism,
Hinduism and Buddhism. These religions were brought to the Khmer Empire through
trade with other countries, particularly India. Each belief system impacted the
Empire in different ways, such as monuments, traditions and the way each God
was worshipped. This ended up contributing to the fall of the empire.
